What Manchester United fans can expect from summer transfer target Alvaro Morata

With Manchester United not activating Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s one-year contract extension, the Red Devils are in the market for a striker who can score at least 28 goals a season.

So it’s no surprise to see Jose Mourinho is in the market for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata .

The Spaniard scored 20 goals for Los Blancos last term, in three fewer games than the big Swede.

Morata also only started half the amount of games – 19 compared to Zlatan’s 41.

Morata knows where the back of the net is

And considering the 24-year-old is fighting for goals amongst the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, his stats start to look pretty good.

If United start Morata every game then they will surely only get more out of what is a very promising striker.

Take a look at the pair’s league stats from last season – the Spaniard’s goal to attempt ratio beats Ibrahimovic’s all hands up. Morata scored 15 goals from 54 shots compared to the 17 from 116 the 35-year-old produced.

And despite starting 13 games less, Zinedine Zidane’s man only got one less assist than Jose Mourinho’s (3).

At 6ft2in there’s no need to worry about United lacking an aerial presence up front. In fact, Morata actually scored more headed goals in the league last year than Zlatan.

The Spaniard nodded home six times compared to Zlatan’s four.

And if Red Devils supporters were worried about a lack of shots from outside the box, they need not be concerned on that front, either.

Morata has, on several occasions (including in the video above), shown his power and ability from long range.

As expected from a big man, Morata has the physical presence to cope in the Premier League.

Morata has the skills to pay the bills

But better still, the striker has a surprisingly good touch and range of skills capable of causing defenses nightmares.

At just 24 years of age, the Real Madrid is still two years off his peak. A deal seems like a no brainer.

The Red Devils target recently tied to the knot in Venice and is now on his honeymoon. United will hope to wrap up a deal upon his return.
