Real Madrid president Florentino Perez blames media for sparking Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga after tax dispute

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has pinned the blame on the media for the transfer saga surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo following a tax dispute with the Spanish authorities.

The Spanish authorities are pursuing £13m in unpaid tax which has led to reports in the Portuguese and Spanish media that the player wants to leave Los Blancos this summer, with fresh reports emerging of a return to Manchester United.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, Perez has admitted to being affected by the news surrounding Ronaldo and criticised the media.

“It has affected me how the media treated Cristiano; the presumption of innocence was not respected,” Perez said.

“I believe everyone must comply with their tax obligations and I know that Cristiano always does things the right way.

“Cristiano has the same corporate structure he had in England, where he spent many years without problems.

“I am sure that Cristiano complies with his tax duties, it must be a confusion that will be cleared.”

Perez also revealed that he has not yet spoken to the 32-year-old since this speculation emerged.

Ronaldo with the European Cup earlier this month

“The last time that I talked with Cristiano was in Cardiff, after the game. What happened with the tax authorities was after the game.

“Life throws up unexpected situations but one has to take them on and find a solution.”

Paris-Saint Germain have been linked with a move for the Portuguese, but Perez also moved to cool any propsect of his player joining the Ligue 1 side.

“The clause for Cristiano is £1bn. We have not had an offer from Cristiano… the Sheikh at PSG is a friend of mine and he hasn’t called me nor have we talked.
