Arsene Wenger has told Olivier Giroud that Arsenal “need” him next season.
The France striker lost his starting place in the last campaign and has attracted interest from West Ham and Marseille.
Wenger said: “It has been a frustrating season for him because he has not played a lot. And when he has played well, he has not always played the next match.
“He has won us a lot of points when he has come on because he has scored lots of times. He has qualities that our team need.”
Giroud started only 11 Premier League matches last season but scored six goals from the bench.
The 30-year-old penned a new two-and-a-half deal with the Gunners in January and has netted 98 times for the club in 226 appearances, which have seen him win three FA Cups.
