Police in Barnet have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with an attempted distraction burglary that they believe to be linked to another offence.
On Monday, 13 March, at around 17:00hrs a resident in the Belle Vue Estate, NW4, opened her front door to a man who claimed that he needed to borrow a pen to sign something.
The victim closed the door, as she is a vulnerable person and had previously had issues with people attempting to gain access to her home.
The following day, an officer from Barnet attended the resident’s home to check on the progress of some CCTV cameras that had been installed to help with the resident’s security. He was informed by a carer that a man had called the day before and was shown CCTV footage that featured the man engaging the resident in conversation in an apparent attempt to enter her home.
The officer examined the footage and identified the man as being the same suspect who had carried out a successful distraction burglary at an another address in Crewys Road, NW2 on Wednesday, 8 March at around 16:00hrs where a man entered the home of an elderly woman and stole a handbag having claimed she had a problem with her gas meter.
Detective Constable Yogini Patel, from Barnet CID, said: “The suspect is described as a white man, of medium build, aged approximately 60 years old. He was around 5ft 6in tall, with a small grey/white moustache. If anyone recognises this man we would ask them to contact us as soon as possible.”
