Seven years after quitting frontline politics, David Miliband has made a dramatic intervention in the Brexit debate.

He has called for a second referendum on if we still want Brexit once we know what it will actually involve.

The former foreign secretary, who resigned as MP to lead a refugee charity, described leaving the EU as ‘an unparalleled act of economic self-harm’ saying the full consequences have not yet started.

We should be given a follow-up referendum with a straight choice between remaining in the EU and taking whatever alternative is negotiated, he said.
