It is a transfer move which is slowly gathering pace , as the possibility of seeing Dani Alves grace the Premier League becomes a very real one.
Manchester City are sniffing around the Brazilian as Pep Guardiola eyes a reunion with a player he won pretty much everything with during their time together at Barcelona, and if City do end up pulling off the deal then they’d be bringing in one of the current game’s great characters, as well as an incredibly successful player.
But what can we expect if Alves is soon to be seen pulling on the famous sky blue City shirt? Well, this lot for starters.
He may have missed out on lifting another Champions League trophy in Cardiff last month – which would have been his fourth – but Alves’ trophy cabinet is still heaving under the pressure of the amount of medals that it houses.
He’s won 33 major honours in his career, a tally which leaves him level with Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the third most decorated footballer ever behind Ryan Giggs on 35 and the ultimate football pub quiz question answer of all-time, Maxwell (he of Ajax, Inter, Barca and PSG fame) on 37.
Would more follow at City?
2. Sartorial elegance
Few footballers are as committed to a look as Alves is to his tuxes.
The Brazilian rocks a dickie bow and dinner jacket like few others, and if he does end up heading to Manchester then the Printworks will have seen few sights like him hitting the dance floor on a Saturday night.
4. Selfies in hats
Give the man a phone and a mad hat – and often some glasses for decoration – and he’s happy.
It’s a glorious sight.
5. Eyes in the back of his head
Anyone remember that backheel assist for Gonzalo Higuain in the Champions League semi-final against Monaco? Well if you don’t then hopefully the image above will jog your memory.
Don’t expect to see Higuain himself in it though, as he’s only just emerging to gloriously fire home an Alves flick which defied all logic.
Just thinking about now makes our brains hurt.
6. Jokes on TV presenters
7. Just being an all-around nice guy
He loves a hug, does Dani, and he’s not afraid to show anyone.
Clearly a player who embraces life away from football as much as he does the challenges on the pitch, City could be getting themselves a very good player if they can pull this move off.
While the Premier League would be getting a great character.
Who will Dani Alves join this summer?
